to this day the greenland postal service still offers exchange of "old" NM stamps on a ratio of 100% up till 300 DKR pr year I think it is. if you go above that it lowers to 80% I think.
up until I think within the last 5-6 years you could exchange unlimited amounts into completely new unmounted stamps.
what they do with those stamps one could imagine that they lick them on paper, cancel them and then cut them out and sell them in kilowares as postally sealed together with some original stuff?
either way as OP has mentioned, it would be limited how much mail the population of greenland would supply. A large percentage of the stamps were made into 1. day covers and such for collectors. Location postally used stamps are hard, even a lot of the covers were created by collectors for their own collections or to sell as profit.
you wrote "Anyway, they're just some nice stamps to be seen."
i would suggest collecting unmounted stamps if you enjoy their design and such. you can always add a section with cancels where you show different ones.

This recycle of stamps is very common these days . For many years a person can go around the stamp bourses around Chicago and buy FDC covers for 10 cents each . These covers would have complete sets on them .
I recently purchase 40 Turkish covers for $5.00 just to get some of the more recent complete sets in used condition .Plan to soak them off. All these covers are post office fresh and never seen a mail box .So I am pick up used Very fine complete sets at pennies per stamp . |

Hi Sorsh, I'm not quite sure that I've understood your post. But let me tell you something:
I'm on cinderella and stamp collection, just for the fun of it. In the past, when I was a boy, I collected UMM stamps, having standing orders with the British, Swedish and Faroese Philatelic boards. Childish collections!
Now, at 61, I enjoy collecting cinderellas and used stamps from a number of countries: UK, Sweden, Denmark, Switzerland...To name a few. I like the thrilling of finding that elussive stamp nicely postmarked. As Ron wrote some time ago "Hapiness, is a completed set!"
As for the return, the one that I expect from the money spent on cinderellas or stamps is just the same as from money that goes on travelling, drinking a good bottle of wine or whisky with some friends or...: just the pleasure of it.
No, it's not me who will waste a single penny on clean, immaculate, brand new coloured tiny pieces of paper. IMO that's for rich people or children, and with more white that Black hair, I neither of those.
So, thank you very much for your advice. But, as "The Voice" put some years ago, "I'm going my way". |

Thank you very much. These stamps, don't come from mixed lots, which I never buy. I bought them many years ago from traders on my city, Barcelona (Catalonia). And they were not cheap. Just, recently, I've placed them on Steiner pages and look ok. Perhaps, when the covid turmoil has passed and we again have post services, I'll look on e-bay for some early missing stamps. I would like very much to have the Thule series. |

The Thule issues are actually fairly easy to find on ebay and elsewhere. Expect favor cancels on the used ones, on cover non-philatelic are almost impossible. :) My Greenland |

Thank you very much.Your Greenland collection is truly impressive. Congratulations. Greenland, for me is a side collection, on which I've taken more interest during this long (already, 7 weeks!) lock down. Actually, I won't mind on having the Thule stamps favour cancelled, as all my Greenland stamps are cancelled. |

Nice collection. I have a similar collection (including the 1945 set) that I have not looked at in a few years. It is in a stock book. I guess I should mount it. Now on the To Do List. |
