Partime and Rod:

I think we can be pretty sure that both your pieces with many, many stamps of were actually sent through the mail. Both have the total value of the stamps written on them as per common practice at POs when an item is weighed for shipment.

Oops. I thought this didn't go out first time so I resent the previous post, not noticing it had gone on to page 2. I figure the Internet problems I had over the weekend had come back. With this shelter-in-place, Internet usage has increased greatly and sometimes finding the DNS server is easier said than done.

Indeed, they are from my collection, and from covers actually sent to me.
I have tens of those.

Another cat to throw among the pigeons. or possibly

The following is from ACSC, in this case it is a page dated 1988.

So Specimen and CTO stamps come from the same source. It was a purely arbitrary decision on APO's part to overprint stamps of 10/- or $1 and higher values "SPECIMEN" but cds frank stamps of a lower value.

Why then have CTO stamps generally a bad name while SPECIMENs are highly valued. I know that some countries churned out CTOs as a revenue generator and mow even some of the more "classic" countries have followed suit.

Opinion.
CTO's from these sets issued, do not attract that characterisation.
in fact, from what I experience, they are sought after, and depending on the
CTO impression, dateable.
The more expert, amongst us may offer a more detailed account.

I draw your attention to a post by an SCF member
