These stamps 1-6 from 1968-1970 are not listed in Scott under SHajah or the United Arab Republic. Are they worth more than .25?

Hi,

The stamps in pictures 4 and 5 and the two stamps in the middle at the top of picture 6 are all listed in SG.

The best ones would be the Arab Postal Union set priced by SG mint at £2.20 in 2005.

The remaining stamps don't have a full listing in SG (just a brief summary in an appendix) but are probably listed in Michel.

The "dependencies" are a couple of small exclaves such as Khor Fakkan.

Khor Fakkan is now a coastal town of around 40,000 people with a container port but back in 1970 it must have been little more than a village with a small territory around it.

Following upon nigelc's comment: I have the Michel catalog which lists them and have collected Sharjah and Khor Fakkan for several years.

There are some better stamps that are hard to find (but not these, unfortunately). Your used ones are CTO and are not work much. Sometimes a full set is of interest to topical collectors.

Boulderite, Michel does list all the above stamps, however does not give used/CTO values for every individual stamp, in some cases only giving a value for a set. This is the case for the JFK, Cats and American painters series.

As NigelC commented above, the Arab Postal Union set has the highest value (€3,00 in "Gulf States 2013"), the Pan-Arab Games strip is quoted as €1,50.

As you may know, stamps issued by the individual emirates prior to unification in December 1971 have a somewhat dubious reputation. Often referred to as "Sand Dunes" and wallpaper, they were mainly (the extent varies from emirate to emirate) produced by external entities with scant relevance to the supposed "issuing agencies".
Finally, the "United Arab Republic" (UAR) has no connection to Sharjah and its dependencies, being a political and economic union joining Syria and Egypt between 1958 and 1961.

The emirates which include Sharjah, were formed into the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
