US Special Delivery In 1971 - Pure Curisoiy

Out of pure curiosity on my part. I collect Canada and know nothing about US rates. This American envelope was posted in Canada in 1971 at a cost of 57 cents (Canadian) the correct rate.

If it had been posted in the US as special delivery what would the cost have been.

According to the web in 1971 the dollars were at about parity. Did the sender win or loose in posting from Canada

Depends when in 1971.
From July 14 1969 to May 15, 1971 it was 45 cents.
May 16, 1971 to April 17, 1976 it was 60 cents.

6th August 1971 so they save a couple of cents possibly. That was quite a jump in cost from 45 to 60 cents. The Canadians did a similar thing in Jan 1982 when the letter rate went from 17 to 30 cents overnight
