I think that it is ebay business as usual with more inexperienced buyers in the deep end of the pool. |

Garden variety 2 cent Washingtons and 1 cent Franklins at absurdly high prices. Yep, we see this on ebay all the time. You say that you see them "selling for big prices," but are people actually falling for the scam and paying those prices? I wonder how many of these sellers are unscrupulous scumbags and how many are simply ignorant. (My guess is that the scumbags are the majority.) |

A fool and his money are soon parted. My take on this behavior (and it goes way beyond stamps, ebay, etc, but can be generalized to unethical human behavior in general) is that the scammer believes other peoples' money is his - it just hasn't made it into his bank account yet. If people are stupid enough to get scammed then they DESERVE to lose there money - more of the unethical person's mantra. Basically, these scumbags tell themselves whatever they have to in order to continue being scumbags. Some people are simply 'broken'. Happy stamping! |

To be fair, I was being hard on scammers, not deluded people or wishful thinkers. If the person in question is, deep down, a scammer, but unable to face that reality and hiding behind the belief that he/she is deluded or ignorant, then I stick by my earlier statement. Why should I ease up on a person whose basic flaw allows him (dare I say, COMPELS him) to NOT ease up on me with his/her agenda? For people that are truly deluded or overly-optimistic, I will give them a bit of a pass.
I do wonder how an honest, forthright person can locate a stamp (which he/she may have had no interest or knowledge about beforehand) and call it a perf 10 on one side only, quote the SCV, and place it online with a starting price of $3000 on it. To me, there is too much particular knowledge (perf 10 on one side, and quoting the SCV for that variety) to simply be an 'accident'. That person knows enough to know that he/she is misrepresenting the item for sale and going for the big (dishonest) payday. Especially when he/she has multiple stamps, each being claimed as perf 10 on one side with high starting prices, all of which can be seen in the scan to be the basic stamp worth pennies. When I read this person's conditions, he/she states that there will be no returns or refunds under any circumstances. I thought I WAS not being so hard. |

some of the stamps I see as sold (some over a thousand dollars) were not even in good condition. they had notable folds in the corner. if you are going to sell worthless stamps at least they should be in good condition. ha. I also notice some for sale at high prices had 20 to 40 watchers. must be watching to see what fool might buy the item. |

Quote: If people are stupid enough to get scammed then they DESERVE to lose there money Mooter, I think floortrader might have misinterpreted this as a statement of your opinion of the buyers rather than of the sellers' self-justification. It's like "Those homeowners deserve to be burgled because they didn't lock their front door." As far as the "sales" of these items go, you can't be sure whether they were actual sales or part of the scam (a la the "British cartel"). |

Perhaps the $1200 stimulus checks have something to do with the high sales prices lately. People feel "richer." Perhaps once money from those checks is spent, prices will revert back to normal. |

Nice find, 3193zd. I suspect (dare I say: EXPECT) this behavior will never end - we are stuck with these guys.
I WOULD like to know how he came up with the prices that he did. He has various prices (as opposed to each one listed at, say, $5000) on the different stamps in his 'stock'. I wonder why one of these 10c stamps rates as an $8500 start, while another 10c stamp rates at 'only' $2500. Inquiring minds want to know. |

I see these crazy priced items pop up on ebay and just laugh. I had no idea many were actually selling. lol I just looked and can't believe it. Can't imagine what they are up to? Not even sure I want to know. While we love to bash ebay every chance we get, my experience in the last 20 years has been overwhelmingly positive! I have made many great finds on ebay, but more importantly than that, I have made many great friends on ebay. Despite what the media wants you to believe, people are still basically good. |

I do note that the 1 cent Franklin has Free UK delivery - perhaps that accounts for the cost . Recently I looked at a Lego lot described as "The most Expensive Lego lot" it was offered at £25,000 instead of about £200. I suspect the seller put it up just for a laugh. AQ |

I get pop-up ads from idiots on Etsy.com as if they are legitimate ads that are in line with my interests. Like 3193zd mentions above, thousands of dollars for a beat up penny stamp. Infuriating that no one with real world knowledge moderates these sites. I'm not a member so I can't tell them where to go. |
