First welcome to the Forum.
As to Stampworld, I have not used it for my main collecting area which is United States, but for two topical areas I collect I have found Stampworld extremely useful to me as a worldwide buyer.
1) for getting worldwide material that has proven difficult to obtain elsewhere. In the US for example modern Cuba can be hard to get. I have gotten some from Stampworld at what seemed quite reasonable prices. Also some unusual souvenir sheets and folders from Europe and the Pacific Islands. 2) Prices for fairly modern material (say 1945 onward) stuck me as generally fair by comparison with some other sites (ebay, delcampe, and hipstamp for example). So when I suspect other material I have run across in other sites may be priced higher than it should be, I have found it worthwhile to check in stampworld to see if there are less expensive. Sometimes there are. For example I recently wanted a pair of stamps from Turkey. the only source in the US I could find struck me as a little high, on Stampworld I got blocks of 4 for the same price with lower shipping.
3) Many of the stampworld vendors are in Europe. So the initial shipping charge for the first item tends to be higher than a domestic US source. So I do find with stampworld that it is helpful to batch purchases together to make a batch order from one vendor. Shipments can be slow from some of these vendors, but I believe that is due to the current viral crisis.
3) I recently located through stampworld an item pre-1945 that was not for sale at present, but they had an estimated price. I had never encountered this item in catalogs and so consulted another specialist in the topical area. He ultimately located a Spink sale from 10 years ago for this item which was news to us both. This item is not on sale at this moment from Stampworld, and I may never acquire it in my lifetime, but now I know it exists. So as a crowdsourced catalogue on this score I give it a thumbs up.
I cannot speak to experience as a seller.
I hope this helps you. As with any individual or group of sellers, you need to double check, and not rely solely on one source, but it is very useful I find. |

I have never paid attention to the prices so wondering how people use them. I just use it as an identifier since better illustrated than many catalogs and you can use a search to assist in finding issues. |

I've been using StampWorld to identify issue years of stamps while transferring my WW collection to Steiner pages. I have a computer on my stamp desk, and using StampWorld is so much handier than flipping through a paper catalogue.
Back-of-the-book issues other than semipostals, airmails, and newspaper stamps are impossible to navigate to from the main listings. Google is your friend in this case: for example, searching the phrase stampworld hungary postage due brings up the Hungarian postage due listings. If a search for a country's official stamps turns up no StampWorld page (as is the case for Belgium), substitute government for official in your search.
I wouldn't use StampWorld to catalogue a collection, however, unless and until it gains acceptance as a standard reference. |

Ok Ursa. Very good. Thank You. I often use Google Lens to find the stamps that I can't find in the stampworld. It works very well. |

I wanted to give this topic a bump and see if anything has changed in the last 2 years. I have started to list a lot of stamps on Stampworld, and am wondering if others are doing so, and if they are doing it successfully?
As Stampworld's feedback does not differentiate between buyers and sellers, I am wondering if those that are buying off of Stampworld (SW), are satisfied with the experience, and what could be done to improve it.
With all of the different languages there, I am committing to have each item I sell accompanied with a picture of the actual item. This seems to be rather rare on SW.
Something else I noticed, is that the catalogue on SW is pretty basic. If a stamp has been issued as a souvenir sheet, a booklet, and a coil, the stamp still just gets one listing.
So, with listing a lot of my recent Canadian stamps, I use SW base listing, but have to then give the actual Scott/Unitrade number, as well as the BOOKLET # (if applicable) and a full description of why each listing is different from another one. Perhaps SW is not the best place to list more specialized items, although I don't think coil and booklet differences are that specialized.
Anyway, I have about 150 listings, all with pictures, and not a single sale, as yet. I am assuming the more you have listed, the better opportunity for buyers. |

I recently made my first purchase there and was very satisfied. Shipping was not too bad-less than 5 bucks to the US from Germany and the selection and prices seemed very reasonable to me. I'll be using it in the future I am sure. I wish there was more consistency with dealers providing additional catalogue numbers for their listings, I don't mean Yvert vs Michel etc, I mean any number. Lots of things listed with only Stampworlds catalogue number. |

Hello. In my opinion stampworld stamps are above the market price, and it is not a unique opinion, we share it with all of the Spanish forum, although it is true that we use the values #8203;#8203;to equate the exchanges. In the forum that I am a member of (there are several also in Spain) we have a great task with the exchanges, it is the basis of it, here the matter is very stagnant. I came here to exchange stamps, but since there is no movement I wanted to help others and I haven't been able to either, there is a high level and there aren't many collectors of what I have, it's logical; This is an American forum and what is seen most are American stamps. Also, I don't know what happens, but some days I can post and others I can't, and when I can I can't find where I wanted to post days ago, I don't speak/read English and I don't want to bother. I have offered stamps of their faults to other members and I have not received an answer, it is the same; I read translated and learn what I don't know, I'm retired, I have all the time in the world and I dedicate it almost exclusively to stamps. Regards.

Roberto, Since the Universal Postal Union members implemented the requirement to declare ANY merchandise in international First Class mail, it is no longer possible to simply send some stamps for trading in a First Class envelope. This has nothing to do with this community or any other online venue, it was something that the UPU members voted on and is now required. Filling out declaration forms, assigning value, and facing the possibility of fees and taxes is quite a lot to ask for someone who might want to simply trade a few stamps with like-minded collectors.
All, RE: stampworld users Be sure that you read and understand the Stampworld Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. Don |

"International First Class" isn't a term used in the UK, but I assume it equates to what we call International Standard. If you're putting a glassine with a few stamps in with a letter or note, it's highly unlikely to be picked up. A card-backed envelope is very likely to be. You'll also need a customs declaration if you're using international surface mail. |

Quote: ...If you're putting a glassine with a few stamps in with a letter or note, it's highly unlikely to be picked up... We like to recommend that people follow the regulations in this community. If they do not agree with the policy, then folks should contact their governments and try to change the situation. But it is true that folks can ignore the regulations and risk having their mail not delivered as expected. The 'upside' would be that they can then complain about how bad the postal services are in this day and age. Of course, none of this has anything to do with the point of my post above, which was the reason that fort recent declines in international trading of stamps probably has more to with the logistics of UPU mailing policies than online venues. So I am confused about what I have to declare when shipping stamps abroad. If I have a giveaway here and one of the winners is from a country other than the US, what do I actually have to declare? I have also sent stamps that I don't collect to other members of this forum. Was I supposed to declare a value, which to me was zero. |
