Hi,
How I can ascertain if my 2 shillings kangaroo stamp is from 1929, 1931 or post 1946 edition. Since all have 12 perforations. I have uploaded my stamp picture as well.
Secondly it has some unusual perfins any info? Or is it damaged not perfins.
thanks.

nonu,
we need a watermark.
Use watermark fluid, or, place the stamp in a small flat dish with cold water,
(face down) the watermark should show through, try to determine what Wmk, or, try and scan the watermark.

Sydney Parcel Post Postmark

PERFIN. Not enough punctures to identify.
If we had just one letter, it may have been solvable

nonu, it is best to just show the back in the watermark fluid (without your boxes) in one scan/photo and then you can highlight things in a 2nd or 3rd photo.

The kangaroo and map is not the redrawn die (1945-48), it is much earlier.

nonu,
Your kangaroo is the 1935 issue of the 2 shillings maroon, die II, CofA watermark.

The points of distinction between the original map and kangaroo and the redrawn issue of 1945-48 are:

1. Two lines of shading between the value circle and the wording "TWO SHILLINGS"
2. South West coastline of Tasmania is smoothly curved.
3. The Gulf of Carpentaria has 13 lines of shading.

The 1945 Redrawn Die

1. One line of shading between the value circle and the wording "TWO SHILLINGS"
2.The South West coastline of Tasmania has a dent.
3. The Gulf of Carpentaria has 14 lines of shading.

Australia is a fun area to collect, but condition is everything, as all stamp collectors know.

Australia is actually pretty easy to figure out the early stamps as the watermarks are normally very, very easy to see. I usually just place with the back facing you against a smooth black surface, or I hold it up to a lamp at an oblique angle. The watermark usually just comes right out at you. Scott states the watermark as viewed from the back, with Stanley Gibbons and ACSC state as viewed from the front.

Good luck.

nonu,
The best reference work to enable you to sort your kangaroos is

ACSC KANGAROOS CATALOGUE - 2017 AUSTRALIAN COMMONWEALTH SPECIALISTS' CATALOGUE - BW 6TH EDITION 'KANGAROOS AND THE EARLY FEDERAL PERIOD 1901-12'

It shows the differences betwen all of the various dies and other detailed information on all issues, as well as a comprehensive illustrated catalogue and pricing of the valuable flaws to be found.
