Good Afternoon, What is a US 1917 Special Delivery E11 Double Transfer worth? I don't see a mention in Scott Catalog. The double transfer covers the entire stamp design. The picture is intentionally at low resolution. Thanks *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

I also don't see anything and share my bewilderment at the deliberate low resolution. Why? |

At 500% zoom, the lines look, well, like lines.
I don't see a DT or double impression. |

Trust me - the entire stamp is doubled - I'm not making any mistakes here. Going back to the original question, what would a double transfer E11 be worth? |

Trust me, I don't see one. And I have a few hundred double transfers, postage and revenue. |

I'd like an answer to the forum topic if at all possible. For comparison Google "US E11 stamp" and have a look at their image results. And I'll give you one last example because your so "SPECIAL" |

It is not a double transfer. It may not be the best printing job. It is worth less than a copy with a sharp impression. |

I concur with everyone else ... I just can't see it. Looks like a blurry image to me, and I still don't understand the low resolution comment. Quote: I'd like an answer to the forum topic if at all possible. Answer: No one knows, since none is listed in Scotts and we don't see one on your example. If you were to find one, then it would be valuable to someone that is willing to pay you money for it. Good luck. Edit. Here is a copy of E6 which (I think) has a very slight double impression on the left side (see SERIES 1902 and vertical lines in that area). It is very weak, and probably not worth anything close to the $25 catalog value (2017). |

Setting aside Scott, the go-to reference for plate varieties is Loran C. French's "Encyclopedia of Plate Varieties on U.S. Bureau-Printed Postage Stamps". Secondarily, referencing the "Durland Standard Plate Number Catalog", there were three plates which overlap in printing E9, E10, and E11, and 32 additional plates unique to E11. Building on that information, French does not list ANY double transfers for E9, E10, or E11. While French's monumental work is not absolutely complete, the lack of an E11 double transfer listing leads me to strongly believe this is not a plate flaw, but a minor printing anomaly. The value for any item can only be determined by a sale which determines a price on that day to the collectors who saw it and wanted it. |

Thank you very much John - I see why you are a "Pillar Of The Community". Not just in forum posts, but for all the expertise and great detail you have to offer.
Nothing can be absolutely complete or the hunt would be over before it began. Always hunting, always digging and searching for new treasures here.
For example... I turn over the rock to see what's underneath, then I turn over what's underneath the rock and look underneath and all around everything I turned up.
Exhausting? Extremely. Worth it? Mmmm, sadly and very rarely worth it. It's when you find treasure... that makes it all seem worth it again.
