Was sorting through my last pile of Emperor Franz Josef Coarse/Fine printings for the day, and was about to go to bad when I came across this guy.

Coarse printing, Type II, perforated 10.5. This makes it Scott 29b in my specialized catalog.

Interestingly, there is no value for used stamp in my 2016 edition. Does anybody have the value for used stamp?

Question is it only 10.5 ?

the horizontal and vertical perforation sizes look different.

Perforated 10.75 all around.

Coarse/Fine this is where the confusion is.

According to Scott catalog Type II was printed only as Coarse Print 1867-1872 and was of two types Coarse/Coarse and Coarse/Fine.

Fine Print 1874-1880 only listed as type III.

So according to Scott my stamp is a Type II coarse/Fine print perforated 10.5 which makes it 29b, which does not have a price for the used example.

However, I was reading Jim's blog, and he states that type II fine print was made as part of Fine print issue (1874-1880). He also states that Type III was printed between 1881 and 1884 while Scott makes 1880 as a cut off year for this issue with next issue (Coat of Arms) starting in 1883.

I know Scott is a poor catalog to use for European Stamps; however this is what most of US collector use.

This is Based on Jim's information.

Left to right.

Coarse Print Type I (extreme example), Coarse Print Type II (Stamp in question), Fine Print Type II, and Fine Print Type III.

I think I'm figuring it out now.

As usual Scott is wrong.

Given that Jim's information is correct, and the difference in Coarse/Fine Printing was caused by different paper Soft vs Hard, then there is Type II in Fine Print issue. So coarse printing Type I and Type II, fine printing Type II and Type III.

Based on the paper difference my stamp is likely Type II fine print as perf12 suggested.

I can see that the paper of the stamp in question differs from Type I paper, and looks more like Fine Print Paper.

Here is another example of Coarse/Fine paper difference.

Still, this does not answer the question if my stamp is 29b or not. Since Scott only recognizes Type III as Fine Printing, then #36b (fine print perf 10.5) must be Type III, which leaves Fine Print Type II perforated 10.5 as 29b?

This is so frustrating

The third stamp from the left clearly looks like Fine Print, but the paper is more like Coarse Print.

I need help.
