I was wondering if this was a 537a or a 537

Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Sorry, impossible to say. Your photo (taken on your phone?), the light in the room, our monitors that we are viewing it on, will all have influence on the colour we are seeing. Even the yellow colour of the background the stamp is sitting on can alter our perception of the colour. There's no way for us to tell exactly the correct hue of your stamp. But I think you can pretty well bet that the odds of it being a valuable 537a are pretty slim.

For future reference, if you can post color variety questions with a scan of the item in question beside a regular color variety of the same issue then we can at least give comments on how much we (usually not me) think it is a non-regular variety. Basically, even though our computer monitors will not show the exact colors, we will be able to see the suggested difference or not between the two stamps.
I think that your photo above is good enough for color comparisons.
