Every time I do go through my W/F's I always seem to find something I didn't know I had.

Found this 50¢ Franklin, either 421 or 422 depending on WM. Would it be safe to call this one XF & Jumbo? Since there is only a $5 delta between the 2 I don't feel it's worth it finding the WM :)

Probably, but large images always make the margins seem bigger then they actually are.

I might not look for the watermark immediately but I would keep the stamp at hand for the next time I decided to watermark any stamps.

I'd feel compelled to watermark that one. Nice looking.

I doubt anyone would protest if you called it XF-Jumbo although as revcollector says, scans always have a way of making things look bigger, perhaps just from having more reflective white showing at us from backlit monitors.

Please show a scan of the back. The note in the Scott catalog under the 421 listing suggests that 421 almost always has frame line ink setoff on the back while 422 does not. From the listings and the Durland catalog, different plates and presses were used. Scott 422 was printed from one 200-subject plate on an older spider press, while 421 was printed from four 400-subject plates on a more modern Hoe press.

I find that very surprising. Just watermark it for us.

I'll post a back scan when I get back to my computer (on tablet getting my chemo). John, the reason for my statement of not bothering with the WM is due to there only being a $5 CV difference and my Washington / Franklin pieces are in no way organized.
I just stuff them in vario pages because the single line WM drives me nuts :)

I understand the value difference being small. I saw that in the original post. But it just leaves the thread hanging if you know what I mean - especially when the difference is single-line vs double-line. There has to be something on your stamp, which is far less problematic than single-line vs unwatermarked, which I agree can be frustrating, and I set set some of those aside too!

You really need to get your priorities straight, the back scan of this stamp is clearly more important then a bit of chemo!

Thoughts and prayers to you and yours. Keep your chin up, some weeks can seem like it you are a 'professional patient'.

This week for me was like that; Monday 5 hours of dialysis, Tuesday CAT scan, Wednesday 2 hours of arm surgery, Thursday 5 hours of dialysis, Friday 5 hours of dialysis. Nothing like a couple of days of dialysis and sticks into a freshly cut arm graft!

Looks like I get the + $5. Thanks for reminding me why I purchased catalogs cfrphoto. Sometimes the ease of stamp smarter W/F identifier makes me forget the additional information in catalogs. Don, perhaps this footnote could be added to the appropriate spot in the W/F identifier?

Per Scott;

"No. 421 almost always has an offset of the frame lines on the back under the gum. No. 422 does not have this offset."

** I apologize for mentioning the chemo thing. I thought I had left a previous update but apparently it was on another stamp forum.

Don, thank you for the kind words. My thought and prayers have been with you for some time now as I have been somewhat aware of your battle. I'm learning but I'm getting stronger every day. I was not prepared for how tough the mental battle is compared to the physical battle.

Good luck to Stallzer and Don. I hope the stamps help the mental part of healing/living for both of you.

Yeah, we know what stamp it is. Closure is good.
