Yes Stamps4Life, the RJ from plate 27 is a missing imprimatur.
Might yours be a plate 23? |

Ok, a combination of confusion and mix up for me I guess …. When nsk said " That is another of the missing imprimaturs " , I took it to mean that the sheet was missing. Plus, for I also had plate 22 as a choice - which is a missing sheet - then the confusion. I now see RJ plate 27 as being removed from the sheet and sheet 22 as a missing sheet. Whew…. I am going to look at it again today, but also have been told it's Plate 21. Apologies for the confusion. |

Plate 11? I like the east frame weakness. I am not certain. I also look at plate 38. |

I see your point, but I doubt it. The Nissen plate 11 Penny Black shows clear breaks in the frame of the right letter. Also, the vertical stroke of your 'J' is flattened at the bottom. This is not really evident from the Nissen example. There also appears to be a trace of a repair at the lower left. This stamp is not yet listed as having been repaired. |

As for the RJ stamp, the GBPS does not show plate 23's registration sheet. But I very much like the suggestion it is from plate 21. |

Thank you @NSK for looking. I will look some more on the JG and the RJ I will make plate 21. I have a 1d red BA im going to scan next. All the edges look interesting to me. I'll post it then look later. Seems a little odd to me! |

Good link Rod.
It does not support the RJ-stamp is from plate 27. One, however, should be a little careful. The related Penny Black Plating project site does post some (very few) pictures of Penny Blacks that were not identified correctly. This site does not provide information on how it has been established the stamp is actually the one it is claimed to be.

Thanks for the link Rod. I forget about that site. I've tried recently and in the past to get the Nissan chartwell downloads - without success. Not been successful in trying to get other copies either. But that site is useful. |

The Nissen images are linked from Rod's link, near the bottom of the page.
Click through and search Nissen at the top of the page to bring them up. |
