Japanese Occupation Stamp Kedah

The chap in the stamp is the 26th Sultan of Kedah.(1881-1943).
His full name:Paduka Sri Sultan Abdul Hamid Halim Shah ibni Almarhum Sultan Ahmad Tajuddin Mukarram Shah.
As is the usual custom in that part of the world;he had 7 wives(at different moments) and 40 children.One of his sons later became Malaysia's first Prime Minister.
The stamp dates from 1942,overprinted 'DAI NIPPON 2602'.The 2602 refers to the Japanese Imperial year of 1942(koki calendar).Dai Nippon means
Grand Empire of Japan..(Nippon=the suns origin)!!
Kedah also was also named Syburi when it was part of Thailand.

Just as addition to the old name Syburi.
This was the name the Thai used for Kedah before they transferred Kedah (plus Kelantan, Perlis and Trengganu) to the British in 1909
Syburi or Saiburi means in Thai, city of the Banyan tree.

Oct 1943, the administrative control of Kedah was transferred by the Japanese to Thailand and it was again called Syburi.
The only stamp in that period showing the name Syburi is a 10 cent revenue stamp ifirst seen used on document in January 1945
The scan shows 2 stamps. The right with the bluish color is fake and is often offered on ebay, mint with gum or stuck on a piece of paper with a fake cancel.
The left greenish stamp is the original and sells for about $75
