The purpose of the 10% vertical compression scan? Allows to see easier if the frame is straight??

Yes, you can see if the frame lines are straight or not.

It is a digital way of simulating what Chase called "foreshortening", which is basically just holding the real stamp at an angle and sighting down the frame lines so you can see (in person) if they are straight or not.

This technique is very useful not just with finding 26A's but also in plating 3c stamps in general -- the 10/10A/11/11A plates where the outer frame lines were hand drawn.

@ClassicCoins, I believe, introduced this clever digital method to this board.

philazilla, I would also note that your 26A has decent centering for that issue.

Nice explanation, txstamp. I appreciate you remembering that I introduced the compressed image technique on SCF. Thanks for giving me credit for it.

This one is easy to plate with its singular position recut.
47R6 recut bust.
It's nice to find it perforated and on a cover. Even with the conditions issues I was glad to receive it.

That's an amazing cover, stampcrow! I've never seen a perforated recut bust before. Thanks for showing it.

I completely agree - that's an awesome item.

I think I have only seen maybe one other one - perforated on cover - which I got from KG Taira and parted with years ago.

Unfortunately the only picture I seem to have of it is from Bennett's website - and its lousy.

Based upon comparative rarity, it sold way too cheaply; but its a small audience that appreciates that.

Thanks for the feedback.
Covers like that are why the 1851-61 3c stamp is fun for me to be interested in. There are so many different areas of uniqueness if you will, From plating, recuts, shades, postal history etc etc… that a guy like me can gather up some decent material (cheaply) that serious collectors find interesting.
It allows me to participate within my budget.

Hey all, I could use some help with this. It looks to be a type II or type IV, but I don't have very many of this issue to really know what is what. I have the Specialized Catalog, so that is what is pointing me to type II or type IV.

@txstamp, thank you .. I guess this stamp is a happy accident as I was in search of a #20 and not a #23 .. and has the red cancel, too.

This one is either a 26A with unusually perfect frame lines, or it it a bottom row 26. What does anyone here think?
