I am totally unfamiliar with these since I focus on modern varieties. Since the bottom is not fully visible I am not sure which type it is. The curve outer line at top eliminates Type Ia, Ib, Ic, III and V, I believe. I think Type V can also be dropped since top ornaments appear complete. Help would be appreciated.

Blur at top suggests plate 2

Type 2, Scott 20 is my first bet

Thought it would be easy to plate with that mark in U of US

Sorry for the novice question - but - is there a listing for Scott 22, plate 4 triple transfer? I thought the triple transfer for Scott 22 was plate 11??

Tks for any help.

I may be stretching my 3c knowledge a bit far, but I believe that such double frame lines mostly occur on plates 9 and 15 ?

Is that correct - 3c mavens, or are there other examples ?

Does anyone know which plate(s) of the 1c 1857 have a perforated guideline? I have a few guideline margin and straddle copies that all have an imperf straight edge, but this one is perforated. If it were off cover I would guess reperfed, but this one being on piece that seems less likely. Were some plates perforated at the guideline and some not?

Plates 5, 7 and 8 were sometimes perfed at the center line. The bottom line at the right stops at the edge of the "N". That would make it relief B or F. Top shows it is not relief F. It appears this stamp is a type Va, relief B, therefore position 11R5.

I want to say from an earlier discussion we had it seemed as though they stopped centerline perforations around mid 1860.

Great, thanks both for the information. As a type Va, I think I will send it in for a certificate, which will cost I think more than I paid for the stamp, but should pay for itself to identify the stamp if and when I ever decide to sell it.

It is true that most of the double frame line positions are from either Plate 9 or 15 but there are also some key positions from Plate 11 with double frame lines.

tx, I'm sorry I never followed up. Frankly it's better to have Winston's reply because my knowledge is very basic.

@stampcrow - no sweat. I am well aware of the fact that there are very few 3c perforated "true" experts out there. I am not one of them.

There is a lot of information that is known by a few, but is not yet well documented.

A plate 5 Va. The certs that came with it (2 - PSE / PF) both have a tag on the back stating "From the collection of Stephen Gavula with a S.C. mailing address. I'm not real hip on who is who in the stamp world but does the provenance add anything?

Loved the shade,
