This 1/2 cent variety (right) was in a collection but it very crude compared to the 1 cent. The 1c is even rough looking.

It is so bad it looks a forgery. Thoughts?

Agreed. I remember seeing these forgeries in packets in the mid 1970s, but haven't seen any for years. I don't remember seeing any high values either, but they must exist.

Thanks. I will see what I can find at APRL. My sample is very crude. Most of the entire set from this group are suspicious.

Linn's page shown by Germania is also page 189 from Varro Tyler's Focus on Forgeries published by Linn's.

This paperback, printed on heavy, smooth stock is an excellent resource. There are 320 examples/pages from Afghanistan to Wuhu. It can probably be purchased for a reasonable price from a secondhand bookseller on the internet.
