I just recently received a group of private die playing card stamps and am a little conflicted by the second one from the left.

Scott does not list this stamp on old paper and there's no watermark. So is this pink paper? If it is the pink is very, very faint.

Comments?

yes, it is pink paper. Compare the stamp to the silk paper stamp to its left and you can see the pink tinge. When you put it next to the strong pink color of the third stamp you don't really notice the pink hue on the second stamp.

Thank you. Thought that's what it might be, but the pink is so faint!

Definitely a pink paper. The pink paper stamps can be anything from very deep pink to very pale pink to begin with, plus whatever has happened to them over the years. Pink papers invariably have offset on the back. It is somewhat unusual to see much on the other papers, even though you have an example of watermarked paper with a fairly strong offset here. A careful examination of the reverse with a strong glass will also frequently show small pink or red threads in pink paper; I believe these were fibers from the bags that held the dye. The dye would have been the last thing added, and there probably was not enough time for all the fibers to get pulped, so they show up.
