one cent, issue of 1917, perf 10. Single line watermark. vertical pair. top stamp with nice clear single line watermark. Bottom stamp, I can find no trace of a watermark. I know in some cases the mark would be right on the edge and might be hard to find. Before I start trying to figure out how to post an image, is it even possible??? I do know that according to Scott, an unmarked one cent would be from the 1916 issue and would be more valuable. I can't tell based on color. Any thoughts?

So, my question is, is it possible to have a pair, one with and one without a watermark? I don't understand the comment "Well played". What does that mean?

Pardon me. The reference was to the new emoji "looking around" that was used. A discussion on another forum but timely here too.

OK guys. Does any of this have anything to do with my question? I don't post here often and this is one reason why. I feel like I am being made fun of by "pillars of the community". So please let me in on the joke.

Hello ronv. I would have to say that it is "possible", so that is that. If you want more information and critical analysis, you need to post both a front and back scan of the items. Just ignore those other posts and get back to the stamps. Looking forward to your scans.

Thank you Partime. I'm not sure I know how to post an image. I am a senior and not much of a tech guy. I will try tomorrow. Again thanks much...

I wrote a Word tutorial on how to scan and upload stamps to SCF. Send me an email through the system, and I'll reply with a copy.

Ronv - I do not see a whole lot of use in posting scans when it comes to difficult watermarks. I do love this tool that allows you to "move" stamps around over watermark layouts and see, based upon where the watermark you can identify is located, where the other marks might be "hiding" on the adjacent stamp.

Ronv,

The single line watermarks are aligned in an offset (another use of that word) pattern for each line. The letters form diagonals of the same letter. Look at the stamp smarter link above to find the pop up location tool (lower right). You can then see why a very visible watermark on your top stamp would lead to the lower stamp not having an easy to see watermark. Play around with this tool. Both of your stamps have to be the same stamp from 1917.
