Hello, Can anyone comment on the attached stamps? I know there were both engraved and litho versions of these stamps, but the one on the left is green as opposed to blue. Also, having trouble finding information on the Web about the brown 6 centavos stamp. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Look to Scott #99 for the green one centavo, the 1900 issue. You don't typically need aluminum foil, and find that thin enough to work well is a challenge. Just rub your finger lightly over the stamp. You'll feel the roughness caused by the raised ink on the engraved issues and the lithos will be as smooth as the proverbial baby's behind.
Use a very thin piece of aluminum foil and place it over the top of the stamp, then rub it. Because the engraved issue have a ridge of ink up from the paper surface the design will show through on the foil. With lithographed issue there is no ridge and the foil will be blank.
