I found this stamp in an old album. I believe it is a 1917 11 perforation. But as I am not an expert, I am not sure about the date. My questions are: If it is a 1917, is the color brown or is it violet brown? Also, it is pre-canceled from Honolulu, Hawaii. Is this then-exotic location unusual in an early 20th century stamp? Also, do you think pre-cancellations in general tend to add or to detract from the value of older stamps? How did using precancels benefit the sender? Thanks for your input.

You can learn more about your stamp here http://stampsmarter.com/1847usa/was...ankmain.html but I am not sure about the precancel. In general, precancels are not preferred by many collectors.

It is not a scarce precancel, but it does ADD to the value of this stamp.
