I thought I would share a small sample of my stamps from Togo. I've been noticing as I sort that stamps from African countries in particular are very colourfull of of a wide variety of subjects.

Togo does produce "collector friendly" issues very regularly. I have a number of their issues in my triangle-diamond topical collection, including the cat set you have in your post.
I don't remember for sure, but I have it in my mind that several of the Togo sets were blacklisted back in the 80's and maybe 90's because they were being produced primarily for the collecting trade and not for actual postal use. One of the others may remember more clearly and weigh in here.
In any case Togoian (?) stamps are fun to collect. |

Thanks Greg Once again I've learned something new. Did many Countries produce stamps for collectors that you know of. I have 300 hundred or so stamps from Togo. I'll have to do some digging to see if I have any of these "black listed" stamps. Dianne |

That's really nice of you. She's not feeling well and went to bed but she saw them and said they were cool. |

Philb....
You found a bunch of what are usually referred to as illegitimate issues....
Issues released by countries that have no real connection to the subjects on the stamps and not actually intended for postal use, just released for collectors..........possible exceptions are US Presidents.
It got so bad, some countries even eliminated the CTO cancelling process and incorporated it into the printing process....stamps canceled AS THEY WERE PRINTED !

Well this is enlightening for sure. You know I wondered why African stamps were so cheep now I know. That must be why deep down I still prefer the older classic stamps. Philb email me I can certainly find you some newer issues from Canada. Let me know what year you need me to start looking. I do have them sorted by denomiation. Dianne |

I'm going to have to do some research. I don't know if anyone still keeps a list of blacklisted issues or not. |
