Despite years of immersing myself in Guatemala stamps, every now and then I come across something totally unknown to me.

I cannot identify this. I have never seen Scott #60 with a red "Servicio Interno" overprint. Can anyone tell me what it is and approximate value?

Marty

I would have said to ask you, so my only advice is to try PhilB. After all, he's a bird brain!

Get it? Quetzal = bird = PhilB = bird brain

Hey, I thought it was funny at first.

I was thinking the same thing rev; possibly one government office to another since "Interno" (internal) would mean it stayed within government offices and not available to public use or reception.

laswabbie, I think I do get.....pretty clever of you. I hope Phil can help.

Thanks rod,
Great information. So, it is an official as suspected, apparently predating later officials that were overprinted or perforated "OFICIAL". Any chance that you may have a catalog number or if you know of other Guatemala issues with "Servicio Interno" overprints?

Phil, does the ISGC have catalogs or literature on overprints for official use?

Marty I knew a couple of hundred dollar library on Guatemala would come in handy...congrats ! what you have is a BOGUS overprint..the book does not go into detail it just shows a copy of the one centavo with the servicio interno overprint..most of the 1897 U.P.U. stamps with cancels are stamps that were overprinted Telegrafos and then had the telegrafos removed and a fake cancel replacing it !!

Marty sorry, as to value I can not tell you..the Guatemala handbooks printed by Mayans were created for the ages..so they did not dare include "values" which we know are subject to change !

G'day Marty,
sorry to be tardy in response, I have been at a "sleep over" seminar
over the weekend, and only had time to duck in.
As explained Stanley Gibbons considers these bogus.
They had been listed previously
