My opinion- I try to avoid damaged stamps. This one is a cancelled used stamp with a couple shortened/rough perfs and possibly a crease on the top right front face, visible on back, with a bit of setoff. Appears common, only if you really want it, no more than 3c, and thats being generious.
Honestly though, buy decent centered with reasonable perfs, no thins or tears, creases and you will end up with a much nicer eye appealing collection you will be proud to show.
At the beginning of collecting, it would be better to buy a glassine envelope of mostly different stamps for $1 or $2 than to pay anything more than 5c for a common, single item such as this one, in my opinion.
Start small and inexpensive and take the time to expand your knowledge before you expand your budget.
Collecting for the enjoyment of collecting, whatever that might be, is the name of the game. Don't hesitate to ask questions especially if you need basic information and especially more advanced sources of information for any possible topic. You should be able to find folks on this board a little further along on their collecting journey glad to share experiences. Russ
So perhaps a more interesting question to answer is why do you want to buy that particular stamp. Does it start a set you want to complete? Your friend was offering it to you for a good price? Because you are an admirer of Ben Franklin?
Because Mystic is in the business of selling stamps, they have a minimum value for all stamps they sell, while the true value of the stamp is often much, much less.
