Is it at all common to see what was apparently a Scott 603 (10c coil, vertical perf 10, rotary press) converted to resemble a Scott 591 (perf 10 flat plate)?
I saw no entry in StampSmarter's "Faked and Altered" list, hence my question.
Such fakes are uncommon but they exist. The challenge is to collect a complete set. Also, Washington-Franklin rotary press coils are sometimes found perforated to resemble unwatermarked flat plate perf 10 stamps.
Epilogue to my little Fourth Bureau drama, this time with pics.
The vendor kindly (and quickly) replaced the Scott 591 upon my request. I have dropped him many a coin over the past year and will do so again. Next task: a good old-fashioned thank-you letter.
