Here is another private die stamp I have a question on. It is a D. Burhans match stamp (RO46) and is likely on old paper. However, there is one lone blue thread on the front, and sinle red thread on the back. Both threads are in the paper, but are pretty long. I thought maybe it's silk with very little threads or someone removed them to make it look like experimental silk. But the paper doesn't feel right for silk (IMO).

Opinions?

kbt, Gentle request, Over the past week or two, you have shown several revenues with questions on the paper. Please illustrate the entire stamp in addition to the blow-ups, so we fully know which stamp you are asking about. Thanks so much.

Here is the front and back of the stamp in question.

A previous owner made the "RO46e" pencil notation. There was a lot of crud on the back so I assumed they were mislead by the stray bits stuck to it. A good soak and it cleaned up nicely, with all but the two threads remaining.

Just some left over fibers from the papermaking process. It's old paper

i agree with revcollector. the old paper often shows wood fiber shards which ape red silk fiber. these are often reddish brown under a good glass and lighting. stray material fibers are also found.

Sounds good. Thanks.

There is a fair amount of wood fibers sprinkled around.

I've not noticed, are there no wood fibers in the non-old papers?

Sometimes there are. Some papers were much dirtier then others.
