I just wondered what the experts might think about this stamp. Does it appear to be real, please? Thanks so much for your time. I appreciate all the knowledgeable philatelists out there.  |

It looks quiet genuine to me. Faulty stamp with trimmed perforations.

Just a BTW, But why do you suppose it was trimmed? There was no imperf issue I could find via research. |

Sometimes they are trimmed when taken off the envelope by hasty scissors... |

When stamps were first collected, people were interested in keeping the design, not the incidentals such as perforations. Or, perhaps more likely in this case, it could be an attempt to manufacture a rarity. Or a child having fun. |

The hair on the head is closer together and the beard is different ,again the hairs are closer together . His is a later date reprint above . |

Got a e-mail from collector who says Stanley Gibbons stamp catalog ,notes that "Proofs in various colors on laid paper also exist." |

So it is a proof or a reprint from a later date .Paper looks different . |

Stamp clearly had perforation at some point as can be seen along top right edge, so it is not an imperforated or a proof. |

Serious ! It is a forgery .....looks nothing like a real stamp with ragged edge in the upper right corner . Asking the OP to put that stamp on a dark background .
