Would anyone here be able to say something about these rather unusual items and perhaps assess their possible value?

I have seen a sales ad for one of the yellow stamps (unstamped) on ebay for US $ 250.

Many thanks from Copenhagen!

Difficult to assess a value for this.Forgeries of the stamp with the 1948 overprint are known. They could be scarce or very common ???
__________________________________________________________________
It may be the 1948 Nov 15 printing on the envelope and stamp correspond to the (Ceylon Citizenship Act No. 18 of 1948) which became law on Nov. 15 1948. It denied citizenship to a vast majority of Tamils. This could be the reason the First Day Cover part repeats the date as the start of the rebellion..

The stamps are from the Tigers Eelam rebels issue (1986).The Tamoul region

This was in a way an autonomous region(never officially recognized) from around 1987-2007.It was one of the most weoponizd conflicts in the world.
To this day stamps in support of the rebel cause have been denounced by the Sri lankese govt.

Thank you very much for your reply. I am almost certain that everything is genuine. I grew up in Sri Lanka (1971-1986), where my father was working as the managing director of a foreign-owned company in Colombo. He received the envelope (containing just the two unstamped stamps) at work one day in 1986. Apparently the LTTE were sending several such letters to businessmen etc. in the expatriate community at the time.

I would be most inclined to believe that the stamped stamp affixed to the cover is the most valuable of the items in question. Probably stamped in Jaffna or Kilinochchi before being hand-delivered in Colombo.

Then indeed an interesting cover! I am sure specialized collectors of these stamps would pay + $ for that cover.

I think so too :-)
Question is how to find such collectors. The internet doesn't seem to be abundant with them...

The LTTE is still around today;so it is still a touchy situation
In the Tamil diaspora there are collectors like everywhere else.
They could be found in Sri Lanka,England,Canada,USA.
But with the Covid thing going on ;sending things is a big problem.
And even to Sri Lanka the cover might be confiscated if examined.

1 - you can't buy and sell here until you have fifty posts.
2 - this thread is five years old.
