What is the purpose of the British 2d postage stamp in the item shown below, a 1964 receipt from an auction, estate agent and surveying firm?

If you look at the bottom of the stamp, it reads 'postage and revenue.' Postage stamps were valid as revenue stamps. 2d was the going rate for receipts.

The invalidated stamp is proof of collection of the receipt duty.
