New Member Needs Help

HongKongGuy - Hi! I'm have just taken up stamp collecting again after a long break. I first started collecting stamps as a boy in Hong Kong. I wasn't very tidy and, unfortunately, most of my Chinese stamps are hinged. There are a lot and I'm trying to catalogue them. It's going to take a while and I need some help identifying. I noticed these two 'flying geese' stamps. I tried to identify them but have failed to find exact copies - the green one is imperforated and the olive brown one is perforated. Can you help me identify them?

Your scans of the flying geese are rather small. Can you make them bigger?

These appear to be stamps of the People's Republic, 1950, Scott #49-56. Can't be more precise until scans made bigger.

Hi! Sorry for the small size of the images. My Chinese stamps are in England and I'm in Turkey My friend, who is looking after my stamp collection, takes pictures of the stamps and I try to identify them remotely. When I enlarge the picture too much, detail is lost. Anyhow here they are double size.




Thank you for identifying them as PRC, 1950. Do you know why the olive one is perforated? In the Stampworld online catalogue it's imperforated.

I've also started collecting Turkish stamps - 1863 - 1963. It's much easier when I can see the stamps in person.

Yes, those enlarged photos aren't much better.

The $100 on 16c, olive is Scott #50. The $100 on 50c, dull green is Scott #51. And Scott says that both are imperf only.

Suggest you wait until you can post a larger, clearer scan or photo of the olive stamp and then put it up on the World Modern Stamps forum, which you'll find further down the screen under World Stamps and Covers Discussions. Someone with more knowledge of Chinese stamps, and access to catalogues other than Scott, will then be able to answer you about the perforated version of that stamp.

Don't hesitate to ask questions especially if you need basic information and especially more advanced sources of information for any possible topic.
