This is a major double transfer on RO158d unlisted in Scott's Specialized Catalogue. There was a double transfer described by the distinguished Mr. Richard Riley on this stamp in The American Revenuer in his article "DESIGN DOUBLING OF U.S. PRIVATE DIE STAMPS" in the October, 1979 issue, for some unknown reason it was not listed in Scott's Catalogue. Mr. Riley"s double transfer was a class four doubling to the right to the 2 O'clock position. The double transfer I'm bringing forward is a major doubling of almost the entire stamp 2 mm to the left, probably the largest doubling on the regular sized Match Stamp. Why did a double transfer of this magnitude take so long to be discovered?

RO155, the DM Richardson stamp is known with several DT's, but I have not seen this one before.

As for discovery, it's only one position on one plate; even as a "common" match stamp there are not a huge quantity around.

There are many, many varieties not listed in Scott - both front of the book and back.

The double transfer that I have in my collection on the D.M. Richardson, RO155b would be considered to be of the re-entry type by many collectors showing mainly in different degrees in the upwardly direction of "INTER.REVENUE". I'm still looking for a major doubling in this issue. Concerning Scott Specialized Catalogue not listing all the double transfers, I can understand that. I have found many unlisted double transfers and hope I will continue to find more. In my opinion Scott needs to come out with a catalogue specializing only in revenue stamps and make the process of adding varieties, such as double transfers, much simpler than it is now.

D.M. Richardson also has a DT where the bottom right corner is also doubled in addition to the top lettering. And the words FRICTION and MATCHES sometimes has some doubling as well.

given the number of match stamps used by the various companies and frequent need for reentry or retouching or I am not at all surprised by number of dt's that exist. I am also surprised that there are not more foreign entry's due to reuse of old plates.
you have a nice item and I am jealous. as for Scott's they have missed the boat on meany revenue items and just do not seem to care. separate sectional usa catalogs will never come about because they do not understand the collector/dealer interest in such.
my comment about the weight (ie thickness) of the papers used were that their were so meany changes experiments and difficulty's getting it, that other than the current listings variations should only be footnoted.
