I had come to rely on the Yvert catalogs for my specialty in Colonial Africa. The Tome 2 French Colonies volume provided ALL French colonies through independence in detail not found in Scott. (Admittedly since 2008, my first Yvert, Scott has upped its game).

I did not go for the 2017 volume and have since found that Yvert has changed its organization to present Africa in its combined colonial and independent chronology in two volumes: A-M and N-Z. Given the volume of 'wallpaper' issues from these nations since independence these two volumes price out at well over 2x the old Tome 2 format.

Does anyone have any insight into this change, and/or access to the last 2017 Tome 2 volume?

Are you sure that Yvert's changed its practice? Its "Francophone Africa" catalogues in two volumes are, as far as I know, a separate entity from the single-volume Colonies catalogue, although there is inevitable overlap.

You might look out for a copy of Maury's Africa catalogue 2014-15 - out of print, but much superior to Yvert.

I have a Yvert 2017 single volume containing all the French colonies up to independence. Called Timbres des colonies francaises Tome 2-1. I used it as my quick reference and the excellent Maury catalogue (have the 2010-11 edition) for more depth when needed.

I am aware of the 2017 Tome 2. My recent visits to Yvert site did not find any Tome 2 listings. I will check again.

According to Yvert's 2021 product catalogue (downloadable from their site -- it's of course in French), the Tome 2 2017 paper edition is sold out -- but there's also a notation that the new edition will appear at the end of 2020.

I emailed Yvert et Tellier over the weekend.

Dear Sir,

The catalogue "Stamps of the French Colonies" should be published for Spring 2021.

Best Regards,

N. VIC DUPONT
