I don't immediately see your mourning cover in Mirsky's collection (I may have missed it). He may have had it, and sold it separately - that often happens. Harvey did have the July 5th Moulton cover, however. Maybe someone confused that one with yours, or maybe he did have both. Either is possible.
Regardless, I presume that you already own this cover, and did not just buy it (on extension). If so, there is probably no reason to submit it for a new cert. My first reaction after looking at it, and others from the same correspondence, is that it "appears" perfectly genuine --- Sampson was a well known 47 collector. Caveat emptor for any opinion from a digital image. No guarantees. The killer merits close study, but is likely ok.
The only issue with existing certs is that I'm pretty sure Alcuri and Brettl are European, which in my eyes slightly reduces their validity. No disrespect to them, however, I believe, at least in the past it helped to be plugged in to the local country's established expert services fully for certification. For the US, its the Philatelic Foundation, in particular. |

Quote: Finally got a lovely ladies cover!
We see the difference... the stamp is better placed than on a man's letters. |

That's a nice usage, and very nice 13-bar grid cancels - well struck. The 9 pence due is double the 4 1/2 pence rate for a longer distance within Canada to the destination. Regarding plating - a lot of plating of the 10c stamp is achieved with help from the framelines and markings in and around them as well. Without those visible, this might prove to be a tough stamp to plate. Possibly it can be plated from just the guide dot of course. Here is the reference - https://stampsmarter.org/features/S..._Plates.htmlIts a little confusing at the moment, that the 12c stamp is also on that page - but that's just a logistical issue with the website at the moment. |

@jaxom - to be 100% clear; my comment is not meant as any knock against you.
In fact, I commend you for your resourcefulness at finding a temporary spot for the 12c stamp ! |

Mourning covers on 47's are definitely nice items.
It would appeal to someone building a specialized mourning cover collection or a specialized 1847 issue on cover type of collection certainly.
Regarding plating the stamp - unless it is a notable variety, #1's are quite hard to plate as individual stamps with some exceptions. |

There is no dot in the left ornament, so that makes it a column 1 stamp from either plate. There is no complete plating for the left pane at this time. |

JAXOM100, thoughts on this, seems it has a dot on S. comes from a FLS docketing Nov 26th 1847. I was told its a blackish brown, but from what I know the dot in S is in red brown, dark brown & orange brown. 9th column? can this be plated? I appreciate your insight and happy new year. |

Phade, You stamp is from the the 9th column of the left pane, the stamp color does not matter. It is a plate flaw and on every color. I do not have a copy of 19L, 29L or 89L. But comparing your copy to what I do have, I am certain that it is position 9L1. The guide dot matches with two other plate marks I indicated on the image. The only copy I have of 9L1 is an Ashbrook photo. There is a mark on the photo in the lower right which is apparently a hair on the photo image. Can I post your image in the Stamp Smarter website? |
