Maybe it is "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" or the steam engine from Back To The Future III that Doc Brown converted. |

That is one cool locomotive, Rod222. Here is my favourite, which happens to be the first locomotive on a stamp: New Brunswick |

Penrhyn Main Line class locomotives: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penrhy...n_Line_classF.R. = Ffestiniog Railway in Wales: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ffestiniog_RailwayConfiguration Original: 0-4-0ST, Rebuilt by FR: 2-4-0ST&T Not sure what the ST means (stubby?) but the numbers mean 0 front guiding wheels, 4 drive wheels, 0 trailing wheels (per side). The newer loco on the stamps is the 2-4-0ST-T, the T meaning tender. That is really neat, stamp, railway and small gauge mining railway line all. I didn't know these existed, but should have guessed once I was introduced to Cinderellas on this forum. |

ST refers to saddle tank, where the water tank is placed over the boiler. In this stamp, it would be the green curved part ahead of the cab.

That's a lovely stamp BeeSee, listed in "railways on stamps" but of the 270 pages, not a whisper of "the first", "the biggest" etc. Quoted in 1986 as CV= 18GBP Festiniog Rail, Wales |

Rod222 are those stamps really used on the railway, or are they purely philatelic Cinderellas? |

BeeSee I have no idea, sorry. However if I can be afforded a guess. Stamps issued as a semi curiosity, for users of the individual rail systems, but serving a secondary purpose in raising revenue to support the upkeep of what must be a very expensive connection with the past. British collectors would be encouraged to reply. I am unable to establish which rail systems actually run a genuine "off the main" branch system. |
