Well, if we're going down the giraffe route with the Northern Rhodesia stamp, may I proffer three more (not sure, but I think they're engraved!). Two courtesy of the French artist / engraver Albert Decaris, the first from Niger in 1959, the second from Mali in 1965, which both show a similarity of design. And the third, my personal favourite of course, from Mozambique - well, the Mozambique Company - in 1937. |

All great stuff. I like the leopard and I really like the the airplane. Edit: and the carefully-placed Giraffe from Northern Rhodesia |

Even modern engraved issues can be nice like this Canadian Quebec commemorative. Look at all the fine details. Even at the top of the mountain it looks like the face of the devil (red arrow)! |

Not counting the devil ( ) there are at least 25 people going about their business in that Quebec stamp. It would have been easy enough to leave out a cooking fire or two, or one or another of the background canoes... Where would this world be without artists? Collin |

Please permit me to bring to the attention of everyone interested in engraved stamps the following pages that were originally written and presented by a very good Danish friend of mine who so sadly passed away a year ago at the young age of 66. Rest in peace, Mette. http://tinyurl.com/mette-albuisson |

Tony, That link has some really nice stamps and is a great story about Pierre Albuisson, the engraver. |

Quote: BeeSee: I have done a re-entry on the plate Oh Cool! I see it now. I was looking for a frontal face; not a profile. I'm still not sure it looks like a devil, but I bet it would be popular with the North Carolina State Wolfpack |
