Denmark, Sweden, France and to some extent Austria & Canada ( the odd
high value definitive) still issue engraved stamps but many are
now combination printings meaning usually 1 colour engraving
and multicolour offset or photogravure.
France (and for Monaco) still issues multicolour engraved stamps. |

Anthony, I'm not 100% certain but it was probably engraved by A. Tassos who was not only an engraver but also designer and well known painter. Here are the other 2 values from the set.   |

Here is a stamp announcement from the Greek Post Office which notes that the engraver A. Tassos was the designer for these litho/offset stamps.  |

Spain issued this 15 value set in 1962, depicting the Mysteries of the Rosary using paintings by famous Spanish painters including Bartolomé Esteban Murillo and El Greco. These bi coloured stamps are typical for Spanish stamps of that time. I don't have the engraver's name. Perhaps nethryk could help out there. Egypt - International Geographical Congress (1925) Printed by Offset-Litho by the Survey Department of Cairo. Paper was supplied by Harrisons & Sons. The postage stamps depict God Thoth carving the name of King Fuad ( father of the famous King Farouk) ...  Cheers |

Thanks again nethryk, so it was the Toda brothers. My old 1968 Michel Europa lists the engravers only for some issues up to 1961. Nothing after that date. The designers are also listed sporadically. Not what one would expect from that famous German efficiency.  |
