Hi Everyone,

This is Scott #725 (Cherry Blossoms).

There are 2 additional versions of this stamp, each having a color omitted. They are listed as Scott #725a (Lilac rose omitted) and #725d (Gray omitted) I was hoping someone might have a pic/scan of either version for me to reference in a visual comparison sort of way.

Thanks in advance for any help.
Lucky

Hi Kathy,
On my example you can see the grey which is obvious,
the very light pinky colour is the other.
If either of those two are missing, you have your man!
HTH

Hi Rod222,
Here's a scan of the one in question.

It looks like the gray is missing. What's your opinion?

Kathy

A tough call Kathy,
the image is in insufficient depth to accurately comment,
you will need to scan at say 400-600 dpi
and isolate perhaps the bottom RHS bunch of flowers.
You could be right, but there is depth of shading where the grey is supposed to be, and it may be, the grey has been washed out.
One has to be vigilant before calling an error.
but for your sake I hope it is

Yes rod222, you are right. It is a tough call especially when it comes to trying to decide if what you see is what you want to see, or are you seeing something that is correct and accurate. I know I've teetered back and forth with the 'ole "Is that perf count 13 1/2 or 13" and the longer you look the harder it gets to decide sometimes.

I noticed there is an area here for contests/giveaway's and I think I might have a fun one to do. After digging thru my Japanese cover's I discovered I have more of these stamps on cover than I can shake a stick at (or a cherry tree branch in this case). It might be fun to do a giveaway of covers to the person who can guess the correct number of these stamps that are on a handful of my covers. I could show scans of the covers with the stamped area missing. The person with the correct guess wins those covers. It would basically be a lucky guess to win.(Tee-Hee "Lucky" guess) I've asked the staff if I wanted to give away stamps or covers for free if I need to satisfy the required 14/50 minimum that applies to buying, selling or trading. They emailed me and told me they would get back to me with an answer. Does that sound like something people here would enjoy? Hmmmm...

Kathy

Hi Kath,
for close perf detection there is a digital software option
available US$16 IIRC, which I do not use however.
Useful if you do a lot of perf checking.

I think your contest could be fun, unless someone "really" desires that cover, that can be painful
I am sure you will reach 50 posts before you know it then you can auction it/them for beginning at $1
