Hello,

I stumbled on this one and wonder if anyone can shed more light on examples and a value. I believe this is the broad star (Scott WMK 7) watermark and it is a non-clean cut perf 11.5x12.5. Assuming I've ID'd that all correctly, this would be Scott 72 or Stanley G 123 as the base stamp. Neither catalog lists a double impression, which this appears to be. The WMK 6 (Sc 23a) double impression for the same stamp had the line dashes with no value in Scott and isn't even in SG.

I have found an unused copy online that was listed at both:
http://prestigephilately.com/cats.p...ctionnum=105
https://www.filat.ch/index.php?main...ucts_id=6284

The first one seems to estimate $800 AUS and the second one quite a bit more. I can't tell sold values or what happened in the end with either auction and it appears both auctions feature the same stamp.

Mine is used and arguably not in great shape but was a fun find regardless. Just curious if anyone has any other info to add or has come across this variety before?

For the Prestige example, it didn't sell. It may of course have traded hands privately after the auction.

What a striking stamp! Can't say I've seen this variety before.

"The Postage Stamps of South Australia", Philatelic Society of South Australia, 1948 does not list this double print either.

A striking stamp in any case.

Thanks for the replies. Any opinions on whether this would be worth a certificate if I did want to sell it or even what the best venue would be to find a buyer? I am mostly a Canadian collector so this is a bit outside my wheelhouse. It was easy enough to spot from 2 feet away quickly sorting through stamps thankfully or I might have missed it.

I'm not sure a certificate adds much. You can use the similarity of the others you have found to prove it genuine. A good place to start is Philatelics Australia https://www.philatelics.com.au/index.php. Steve Meharry operates out of Adelaide and his auctions are usually well stocked with South Australian material.

He can give you some guidance if nothing else.
