I got one of the "60 year" lots as a consolation prize, interested to see it. I thought the France collection that went for $2700 was comparable to the one I got from Dutch for $800.

Very happy with my results - was worth the long slog to view in San Francisco.

And my two consignors did well, especially their large lots of US maritime/transatlantics and possessions/used abroad.

Indochina

That's funny, and I'm sure, annoying.

I once watched a gentleman, at Christie's on the floor, in front of me, purchase two lots almost back to back, and then 5 minutes later, realize that neither one was what he intended to bid on. He was something like, one lot off on each bid.

The auctioneer was annoyed, but, fortunately for him, accommodated him and re-opened those lots.

How does Rumsey handle the post auction, will I get an Invoice? Do they take CCs now? I got mad at them about 3 years ago and haven't bid lately.

Glad to hear the trip was worthwhile Steve.

I guess I am now collecting Indochina.

Yes! This is funny!

There are other topics asking, "Why do you collect what you collect?". Looks to me like you've got a new entry over there!

The ever-so-popular "Oops" reason. Whatever it takes!

Let's just hope that the Indochina lot is as good as the Pinot Noir obviously was. I guess I had better report to y'all after it arrives.

@KRelyea you should receive an invoice by email next week. They take CCs but charge a stiff premium so I usually mail a check. I might have used Paypal also in the past.

I'm biased because almost all Indochina stamps are definitives in very long sets. They make a great display in a collection. Please do a summary for us if you would CJ.

Flying from Great Britain to San Francisco during a pandemic to view these lots is the hardest core thing I've ever heard of in my life--makes me feel less guilty about having FedEx hand carry 5 heavy cartons/box-lots to my door

I think I may have bid on French Indochina in this auction also, but the details are hazy..I was definitely up past my bed time on Thursday

The most difficult challenge for dealers is buying material. For the past 20 years I've averaged more than 100,000 miles per year by car, train & plane in a worldwide search of new material for my clients.

London-San Francisco was nothing compared with my previous travels as a banker – hardest for me was either Chicago to Bahrain, Kuwait, Kenya, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Mauritania & France in just over a week or San Juan to Australia, Pakistan, Japan, Los Angeles & Miami in less than a week. At least then I sat up front or in the old 747s upper deck as they were paying for the flights. Now I'm at the mercy of upgrades. Steve Taylor

Rusmey will take wire transfers(add $25.00) credit cards(add 3%) or paypall (add 5%) best is just send a check = no additional fees. Invoices went out by email but lots will not ship till after the new year.

I used to fly Hartford-Chicago-Dubai-Amman-Baghdad-Dhaka-Kabul frequently and so can seriously empathize with you. At the time I smoked cigarettes and the 16 hour flight from Chicago to Dubai was absolute torture even in business class. Throw in unexpected deviations and it was quite the nightmare at times. Slept in the Schiphol airport on the floor for two days once trying to get a flight out. Had a man have a heart attack in the seat next to me once and I ended up standing in the lavatory for two hours while they worked on him.

Oh well, I guess I am now collecting Indochina.

I feel your pain. While looking to complete my US Zeppelins in Langs part 2 auction I bid on and won the high dollar Zeppelin. Problem is I forgot I already filled that gap in a previous Kelleher auction.
