I have developed and implemented another philatelic interactive feature on Stamp Smarter. Originally targeted at teachers, parents, grandparents, and home schoolers this one might also be of interest to other hobbyists. It is an interactive world map which supports zooming and scrolling. Clicking on any country will display the 'first stamp issued' for that country, the date, and a short blub on the first issue postal history for that country. https://stampsmarter.org/Learning/W...tIssues.htmlHappy Holidays to All, Don

Nice feature.
I think there is a small typo for the United Kingdom. It states 1850, instead of 1840. The ensuing text, correctly, mentions 1840.
The Penny Black, together with the Two Pence Blue was issued on May 6th, 1840. For a long time, it was thought the Two Pence Blue was issued later. However, a Post Office notice mentions the issue of both stamps from May 6th, 1840. The Penny Black is known used as early as on May 1st, 1840. The use was not authorised before May 6th. Problems with the application of the gum caused the Two Pence Blue only to be available from a few post offices in London on May 6th, 1840. This may have been the reason that it was long thought to have been issued on May 8th, 1840. |

Fun stuff! You need a map for different time periods now, a collectors work is never done! |

Agreed, I stared down that road and have a version that supports 5 different periods but it overwhelmed me so I cut it back to what you see. Don |

I gave you a Tweet to share with the First Issue collectors and the RPSL showed their love as well. |

Thank you NumOnes.
Cjd, I have San Marino in the lookup but apparently forgot to add the map coordinates. I'll see about adding this in the next few days. I do not have anything in place for Andorra, I deemed it too small to be bothered with. LOL, just kidding! It slipped through the cracks in the long list of countries, I will see about adding it. Thanks Don |
