Do you count high-denomination stamps whose principal purpose (aside from generating revenue from collectors for the USPOD and USPS) seems to have been convenience in making up large portions of various multiple rates and/or fees as meeting specific rates? If not, then these would be good examples. The dollar-value Columbians spring to mind.
