Thought I would bring back this thread about space fillers and damaged classics.

I pulled this Danish West Indies 1876 10c blue & brown out of an old 1923 Schaubek album where it had been placed no doubt for many years.

Looked ratty and a little odd...

Turned it over...Yikes! A bisect repair.

Definitely a space filler, if that. But enough of a curiosity that I'm not going to throw it out.

Nice bump for the thread, and an interesting bit of workmanship.

Which is exactly what this needs.

A very cheap ($4) stamp, Scott 30. Is it worth $3 because a quarter is missing??? How on earth has this 1872 issue lasted so long in this condition? Am I to be responsible for burning it???

Get rid of another 30%, or so, and it'll be "priceless" on ebay...

Jkjblue: I liked that repaired bisect. Certainly makes for an unusual and interesting spacefiller.

I've got one that looks a lot like the one plsllvn posted last year. The upper right corner on this issue doesn't seem to hold up too well.

As a child I bought a Mystic "Mystery Box" (or whatever they called their throw-junk-in-here boxes). It had a U.S. Navy Official with a tear in it. I loved it. It was the highest catalogue value stamp in my collection, and I adored the blue color. As an adult I got fairly seriously into Navy Officials as a result of this experience.

Unfortunately no longer have that one to scan.

What an extraordinary discovery!
I find that fascinating, you kinda would like
to mount that example with gum side showing

Jubilee, you are playing with danger!
the stamp gods are watching,
that torn item has a nice numeral lozenge cancel.
