2 Cents (With Numbers) Red George Washington 12 Perf Horizontally

Hi everybody,

Recently I bought a little collection with used USA stamps and one of them is this 2 cents (with numbers) red 12 perf horizontally George Washington



I have another stamp with 12x12 perf



Checking my stamp catalog I couldnt find 12 perf horizontally stamp so I think is a fake stamp.

As I can see in Scott's number, perf 12 stamp is #406 which is Type I. Looking both stamps I can't detect if they are the same type.

Are both the same stamp?

I think yes - both 406s assuming you measured the perfs right - and it does look likely to be perf 12.

If these are both perforated 12, the top stamp looks like a 406 trimmed at sides to fake a coil stamp. There is no coil perforated 12 horizontally or vertically of this design.
