"These 'Safe' guys also offer a similar digital contraption that counts perfs on any stamp..."
My trust only goes so far on this…not saying it's not accurate. With the standard 1/2mm acceptance for water content, I don't look to the perfs for ID.
Edit: I do add the perforations, but don't rely on them |

I tried to use full spectrum lighting to reveal WMK#166, didn't work as well as I'd like so I have my doubts on spending the money on a synoscope….
I found my scanner in B&W, kinda picks it up nicely. Unfortunately, I was under the impression it was a 1200dpi scanner, but it only seems to be capable of 600dpi, and that won't do.
On a positive note, I believe I have found a #4 to add to my collection, Most I have spent on a single stamp…..so far, I think I got a pretty great deal on it. I'll try to send it out for a certificate, just to make sure I'm on the right path.

Quote: I believe I have found a #4 to add to my collection, You should know for sure if it is a 4 without having to obtain a certificate. The 166 watermark is unambiguous and was only used in 1857-1858. |

Pretty straightforward in my eyes, but perspective can be a tricky thing…especially when valuables are considered. That being said, I wanted it for my collection and didn't want to pay top dollar, I searched around and happen to find one that stood out to me, I paid next to nothing uncertified so even if it turns out to be a #16 I'm up.

Justfella - I am not playing your stupid games. What catalog are you referencing? Never mind. I could care less. |

I just like looking at stamps...as drama free as possible. Including early Russia, Poland and Finland. I'm just interested in seeing your #4. |

Unfortunately, you'll have to forgive me. my experience's here manage my perception of this situation, without a certificate on something that may be worth more then 50$, It's just bothersome.

Good news for me…found someone that is actually willing to look at somethings I've come across with me, and give me a written opinion! not a certificate but I'd be more then happy with it. Can't wait. Off to get a new scanner today, the 600dpi doesn't do what I need apparently:) |
