25 minutes. First thing in the morning with my coffee. Organizing and cataloguing what I have. Last several months I've put together a pretty substantial collection of Sweden stamps. I wake up excited and look forward to those few minutes everyday. |

I picked up photography a few years ago and spend very little time with stamps currently. I do read this forum every day and keep telling myself, I'll do something with stamps soon but unless it's pouring rain, I'm outside with the camera. |

Mike - What an amazing photo! Thank you for posting it. I live in a very rural and wildlife filled area and live for watching the wildlife. I totally appreciate how hard it is to get images like the owl. Wow |

Great photo, Mike! I love the stark black-and-white-ness of the whole thing except for the owl itself. Nice sharp focus and composition, too! Thank you for sharing! |

Thank guys. Owls and eagles are my favorites. I've been watching this owl, and his sibling, since last April, shortly after they left the nest and before they learned to fly. Watched them both grow up and that was an amazing experience. They definitely know who I am and are pretty comfortable with me around them. Here's a few more of them: |

Wow! What an experience Stunning photographs These are great horned owls aren't they. Went on an owl walk years ago with an owl caller. He explained that the other owls would not call back if a great horned owl was local. Quite the experience, he was the expert there. Thanx for sharing |

Thanks - Yes GMC89, They are Great Horned Owls. The only other owls I've seen in the wild are Snowy and Short Eared Owls. I'd love to see others
Stopped by and saw one of them this afternoon too :)

In general, I don't really spend a lot of time on stamps. I have so many different interests, hobbies, and even collections, that none of them demand a large segment of my time (or money) individually. The proportion of my time that I spend on each one varies, of course, and in the past year I've spent considerably more time searching on ebay for stamps etc. than I have in previous years. I should note, however, that I normally spend far more time looking for postal cards and picture postcards than I do looking for stamps per se. Even so, I don't buy enough of these sorts of items to require much time in organizing them. For example, my purchases in the philatelic-deltiological area in January only totaled around US $110, shipping included, categorized thus: Mint stamps: 3 Unused postal cards: 4 Unused picture post cards: 4 Used postal cards: 3 Used formular cards: 1 Used picture postcards: 1 I spent more in January on Japanese pop culture collectibles, mainly telephone cards and "bromides". |

Mike - I just saw the additional owl photos. Awesome! They are such beautiful creatures and you capture them so well.
A quick wildlife story:
My wife and I love to watch our resident foxes. Generation after generation live about a hundred feet in back of our house in a den built into a bank with large boulders. Last year we watched "Mom" trot into the sand filled riding ring with a dead mouse in her mouth and bury it very carefully. As she started to leave her cache a Turkey Vulture swooped down and promptly removed it which prompted the fox to run after the vulture. Well, the vulture had vulture friend's that were on lookout duty that swooped down and chased the fox. The vultures left with the mouse and the fox went back to the scene of the crime and it's body language spoke volumes. I felt very blessed to witness this. Nature adds so much to life. I see that little drama play out in my head all of the time along with so many others and it makes me smile. |

If you want to support preservation of birds, wildlife, and habitat, consider joining & supporting your local chapter of the Audubon Society. Even though my main outdoor interest is climbing, hiking, backpacking, I've been in Denver Audubon most of the time since I moved to Colorado 40 years ago. Very nice pictures, by the way. Back to stamps, what if one doesn't drink coffee? Main purchases recently are two bulk lots of Portuguese colonial Ceres stamps (1913-1926) as I keep up my self-education & research for my first ever exhibit to show in spring, 2022, devoted to these issues. I deviated "slightly" as I have a nicely centered, used, copy of USA C-15 on its way from Cherrystone's latest auction (Graf Zeppelin, Led Zeppelin, it's all good). |
