Hi All - I am considering diving into a new area of US collecting ... Cut Squares. I basically would like to just have a basic collection with a sample of each of the "Large Banknote" types (1870-1894). I see there are 2 companies that produced similar designs. The Reay Company (Scott #'s U74 thru U107) and the Plimpton Company (Scott #'s U108 thru U217). My question is, which of these companies do you think produced more attractive product (color, impression, etc)? Thanks for any recommendations you could make in my new endeavor.

Reay produced the more attractive (and more expensive) product and it comes first in the Scott catalogs. Care must be taken as many sellers misidentify Plimpton issues as Reay issues. Whether this is due to poor eyesight, failure to turn the page in the catalog, or simple greed remains to be seen.

Thank you Jobi01. I did notice in the US specialized catalog they mention that Reay printings/production have more finely detailed design features. I'll keep a keen eye on the listing pics.
