What is your earliest use on cover of a dater or any other cancel for that matter with USPS rather than USPO in the dial? I do not see a USPS dater until well into the 1980's but the change could have been as early as July 1, 1971.

Was USPOD ever put on a dial? I'm not sure why it would need it.

I have never seen USPOD used in a dater cancel device but that is not iron clad evidence it was not. USPO dater is seen with and without "registered" in the device well into the 1980's. I recently saw a USPS dater from July, 1980 but do not own the cover. The quest continues.
