Hello from Melbourne, Victoria.

After starting out collecting everything I have narrowed my collecting interests to postmarks, US Airmails, Barbados and stamps from Japan that pique my interest.

Hopefully I'll figure out how to post images here and be able to share some of the stamps in my collection with the board.

Welcome. I spent a year in Melbourne several years ago and would love to go back. Once you figure things out, show us what you have.

Yes, every place has its good points and bad ones.

I've been in Melbourne for about 21 years or so and over that time it has really changed.....

The population here has exploded going from about 3 million or so to around 5.5 million during that time and was increasing every year until the virus hit.

All the bad things that one associates with that huge population growth showed up: crowded trains, traffic jams, gangs, increased crime, more drugs, and a huge increase in prices.

The cost of living here skyrocketed especially real estate (houses)in and around the CBD and near CBD suburbs.

Melbourne and Victoria have a really active stamp collecting 'scene' with a huge number of clubs. Now that the virus is basically under control here they have started up meetings and auctions again.

Unfortunately, the mail services to and from Australia are pretty slow and Australia Post has again scheduled price increases for international mail and parcels on 1 March.

Stamps are much more interesting on cover or card. You see the context in which they were used. Common stamps have much potential value when left on the media they carried through the mails.

Collecting for the enjoyment of collecting, whatever that might be, is the name of the game. Don't hesitate to ask questions especially if you need basic information and especially more advanced sources of information for any possible topic. You should be able to find folks on this board a little further along on their collecting journey glad to share experiences. Russ
