John Becker, I used your picture. I resized to match the width of my own stamp, and next tried to assess how much the height differed. Below the result. Looks to me like mine is flat plate from this (possibly unreliable) trick.
Petert, coming back on your comment on back damage: observing it bit more this seems to be paper coming from the envelope. Maybe it's not fully detached yet from envelope paper. You can see it from the front picture as well that; some paper sticking out on the right side.
