I've lived here for years and had no idea there was a fortress of stamps near my house (the Stamp Fulfillment Center.) I'm new to collecting, and am just finishing up an "intro" sort of album, which is helping me discover what I like most (60s & 70s US stamps, it turns out.) Also looking into topical collecting. Nice to be here!

Welcome.

If you haven't already done so, recommend checking out the American Topical Association.
Good group. Interesting newsletter. And a variety of topical "checklists".

staampv,

Collecting for the enjoyment of collecting, whatever that might be, is the name of the game. Don't hesitate to ask questions especially if you need basic information and especially more advanced sources of information for any possible topic. You should be able to find folks on this board a little further along on their collecting journey glad to share experiences. Russ

Welcome! I need to learn more about the fulfillment center myself. Who has some first hand experiences? Order stamps? Cover servicing? What have I been missing?

pascoe:
The Fulfillment Center is basically a place to order current stamps and FDCs. What's new and upcoming is in the Postal Bulletin:
https://about.usps.com/resources/po...bulletin.htm
See "Stamp services". Otherwise what they have on hand is with everything else in the store:
https://store.usps.com/store/home

I've used them a few times and they have been quick enough at processing orders pre-COVID. They will charge you a small amount for shipping so perhaps ordering a couple of sheets minimum is in order. Your local PO might sell you singles or sets but these guys do not.

Where I am, the post offices get one order of new issues and that's it. So they run out of the popular ones quickly, like the Winter Scenes booklet from last year. Fulfillment still has 'em. No office around me bothered with the 2018 Art of Magic souvenir sheet even when it became available generally, but I was able to get a bunch from Fulfillment.

You send your stamped envelopes to Fulfillment for first day cancels that are returned through the regular mail. Between possibly being handled again and the marker monkeys, I'd prefer buying them if I was still collecting FDCs.
