Hi, I got this Swiss 30fr from approx 1862-1878. The big question now: what is the colour? Stampworld suggests Prussian blue is the more valuable vs ultramarin blue. I've been comparing to lots of examples on the web but cannot make up my mind. Anyone more experienced in recognizing?

Looks like ultramarine. Color is very difficult to judge on a computer but Prussian Blue is a much 'richer' looking color

30 Franc or 30 rappen?

You cannot tell colours from a scan. Almost everyone sees another colour. At best you could compare colours scanned at the same time. To me, the colour looks blue and not ultramarine.

Having said that, I am prone to agree with Petert4522, for the reason he states.

But then, it should be noted that colours differ by catalogue publisher and even between catalogues published by one publisher. Just look for the British "purple" stamps according to Scott that Stanley Gibbons almost always categorises as "lilac" on this forum, or check SG for Prussian blue and ultramarine stamps.

The other caveat is that it is an old used stamp and fading is possible. After that and everything else above that has been said, I would agree with Petert4522 that the color shown is ultramarine, a very bright color.

It also helps to turn a blind eye to values when trying to determine color/shade/hue differences because it can influence your decision making.
